ANN ARBOR, Michigan; May 6, 2022 -- The interdisciplinary studio is expanding its fabrication and design services to better address the needs and opportunities of design in the built environment.

The shop will continue to create bespoke objects and furniture for their design projects and broaden fabrication into a product line focused on the commercial and hospitality industry. Synecdoche’s portfolio of work includes a significant amount of retail and hospitality projects where the studio has a deep understanding of the operations and needs specific to the industry. While there are substantial product offerings for office and home furnishings, the hospitality industry is lacking furniture and objects available for purchase to integrate into design projects.

The Industry Series includes pieces in a range of scales, the largest of which is the popular Hatch Stand which Synecdoche has been selling through their design website for the past year. The Hatch Stand, a rich walnut slatted podium, comes in 3 sizes based on uses typical to hospitality such as restaurant host stand, valet stand, and concierge desk. The Night Stand is the other piece at the furniture scale which brings a more industrial sleek style with blackened steel veneer and floating work surface.

All the items in the collection originated from specific projects Synecdoche designed. Sidewalk Board expands the functionality of the classic sandwich board to give dual orientation options both vertically and horizontally while providing a magnetic panel for rotating signs to attach or more permanent application of vinyl decals. Table Board makes it easy for rotating messaging displays ideal at point-of-sale counters to communicate with clients about additional services and products.

The most expansive of the products is Slat Board which includes several component options to fit into a base walnut panel that can join together for continuous t-slot rail to hold signage, shelving, and rails for display. Offered as a starter set and also sold as individual components, the design is an elevated version of the ubiquitous slat shelving system of retail with refined details and materials.
