Boulder/ Denver, Colorado, April 16, 2020 / Kenneth Andrews, a principal at Arch11, Architecture and Design, has been honored by the American Institute of Architects with a 2020 AIA Young Architects Award.  He is one of a field of 22 receiving this award, and the only Colorado architect.

Andrews has brought additional rigor to Arch11’s design leadership by directing project delivery and introducing new technology into the firm’s design process, while creating innovative project solutions that have garnered multiple design awards. He also has received the Young Architect Award in 2011 from both AIA Colorado and AIA Western Mountain Region.

He earned a degree in environmental design from the University of Colorado, then graduated from Rice University in Houston, Texas, with a Master of Architecture degree and the Pitman Prize for Excellence in Architecture.

At Arch11, Andrews’ projects range from lyrical residential projects to elegant commercial and civic projects that stress a high level of design. His works elevate the senses of those who live and work in these environments, while reflecting the values of honest materials, efficiency, durability, and sustainability.

“I’ve had the privilege of knowing Ken since his undergraduate days and am continually impressed and grateful for the devotion to practice he exhibits at Arch11.  As mentor, studio leader and designer he continually pushes our practice to exceptional work,” says Arch11 founding principal, E.J. Meade, who met Ken while teaching a studio in which Mr. Andrews was a student at the University of Colorado.

For more than a decade, Andrews has proven his commitment to educating the next generation of architects by practicing full time while undertaking teaching appointments. He has currently paused his teaching duties as he concentrates on his growing firm and personal commitments. Still, he has focused on mentoring his colleagues, sharing his knowledge and strengthening his firm. Andrews was named AIA Colorado’s Instructor of the Year in 2007 and AIA Colorado’s Mentor of the Year in 2013.

This year’s AIA Young Architects Awards will be presented when the AIA has set a new date for the 2020 AIA Conference on Architecture. The original date was postponed.
