July 19, 2021 —New York –    FXCollaborative announces the inaugural recipients of the FXCollaborative Foundation CCNY Diversity Scholarship. Awarded annually to students at Spitzer School of Architecture at the City College of New York, this year’s recipients, Nada Elsayed, class of 2022, and Sidney Mauricio, class of 2025, will complete internships at FXCollaborative.

The scholarship is open to rising second- and fifth-year students enrolled at Spitzer. The award reinforces FXCollaborative’s mission to provide an inclusive environment for the next generation of architects through training, mentoring, and support, and to advocate for positive change in the architecture, engineering, and construction industries.

"The Foundation for City College is deeply grateful for FXCollaborative's commitment to diversity and equal access to public education. Our campus is proud to have a partner that understands the importance of collaboration and that our students' experience is shaped by diverse views and backgrounds. The FXCollaborative Foundation 2021 CCNY Diversity Scholarship is propelling our students to live that experience through their creativity and leadership," says Dee Dee Mozeleski, Senior Advisor to the President & Vice President & Executive Director, The Foundation for City College & The Office of Institutional Advancement & Communications.

"I'm looking forward to gaining new knowledge and experiences through this summer internship," says Elsayad, who will assist FXCollaborative’s Cultural/Education Studio and will work on the Children’s Museum of Manhattan project. Elsayad, who was born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt, also helps maintain the Solar RoofPod garden at CCNY and volunteers as an Arabic translator for Syrian refugees.

For Mauricio, “this year’s internship is an opportunity to be involved with architecture on a professional level for the first time.” Outside of her interest in architecture, the Queens native runs club meetings and events celebrating Filipino culture at CCNY.

Students of all backgrounds are eligible to apply for the 2022 scholarship, although preference will be given to BIPOC students. Along with a summer internship for both recipients, a scholarship of $7,500 is awarded to the rising fifth year, and $3,500 to the rising sophomore. Information on the 2022 scholarships will be available on the Spitzer and FXCollaborative websites next spring.

“Supporting the education and professional development of promising young architects remains a core value of the FXCollaborative Foundation. We are honored to establish an ongoing partnership with Spitzer School of Architecture and City College to both celebrate and cultivate talent and embrace diversity within New York City,” says Guy Geier, Managing Partner and Foundation member.
