2021 AIA Western Mountain Region RECOGNIZES EXCELLENCE IN ARCHITECTURE

Each year, the AIA Western Mountain Region recognizes excellence in design, planning, and construction of projects located anywhere in the world that are designed by AIA member architects based in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming.  The intent is to honor the highest design standards in response to user requirements, site, context, climate, and environment.  Each entry, regardless of size, classification, or location, is judged individually on the basis of total merit by the jury.  There are two categories:  distinguished building awards and unbuilt design awards.  Awards are based on honor, merit, and citation.

The awards presentation and celebration was held on Thursday evening, September 30th in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Albuquerque Hotel Old Town.

The 2021 awards jury was comprised of the Jury Chair Patricia Gruits, LEED AP, Senior Principal & Managing Director at Mass Design Group of Boston, Massachusetts.  She has taught design studios focusing on social impact at the Boston Architectural College, Northeastern and RISD. Her work has been published in journals of architecture and health and was recently awarded the “Top 40 under 40” for Sustainable Design by Impact Design Hub. Patricia received her Bachelors of Science and MARCH from the University of Michigan where she was a recipient of the Wallenberg Scholarship.

Although winning awards is never the goal of our design process, we at Stateline No. 7 Architects are beyond ecstatic to share with you that he David Street Station project in Casper was the recipient of an AIA Western Mountain Region Design Excellence Citation Award!

This award for David Street Station follows last year’s 2020 AIA Wyoming Design Excellence Award for this project as well as a 2018 Merit Award from the Great Plains Chapter of the ASLA (won by consulting landscape architect Tallgrass Landscape Architecture).

As we celebrate this occasion (our first regional award, by the way), we extend our gratitude to our dedicated staff, consultants, clients, constructor, engineers, photographers, friends, and fellow entrepreneurs!  And we congratulate all of this year’s winning projects, including our counterparts at CLB Architects in Jackson who were also honored with two winning projects:  Town Enclosure and Dogtrot!

Press is encouraged to contact individual architect/firm winners for further information about these projects.
