The international design community condescends to Milan every April for the world's leading and most noteworthy design event in the calendar, Milan Design Week. All through the week the city is lively with exhibitions, installations, discussions and parties.
Considered the most important Design and Furniture show of the year, the Milan Design Week attracts over 300,000 visitors from over 165 different countries!
The event acts as a guide for current and future trends in design. While most visitors are estimating the colors and variety of the moment, snapping and sharing them with passion, there is a growing eagerness amongst designers to question this never-ending invasion of new creations.
It is at present the most imperative Design and Furniture show on global scale. This year's edition of Milan design week took place from 17 to 22 April. It saw lighting designs showcased all over the Italian city, with some presented at the Salone del Mobile furniture fair and others unveiled inside brand showrooms in Brera and elsewhere.

A wide range of lighting designs were unveiled during the extravagant Milan design week 2018, including light bulbs hanging from gloves and a moon-inspired mobile.
This year even marked the tenth anniversary of the Salone del Mobile in Milan, and this year’s fair received a fairly different response i.e more detailed and a lot more launches. The showrooms were more crowded, the brands were more prolific and the trends felt less palpable.
One key project launched at Milan Design Week was the Guiltless Plastic initiative led by design gallerist Rossana Orlandi. The designer has enlisted artists and designers such as Dirk Vander Kooj, a designer who uses robots to print furniture using recycled plastic, to champion her cause, and will soon launch an award recognizing those who conscientiously use plastic in their work. Sustainability was trending at Milan Design Week 2018. The annual Salone del Mobile in Milan, otherwise known as Milan Design Week, sets the tone for which direction the design world is headed for the year and in 2018; sustainable living trended for sure.
