In recent decades, office architecture has been eating away at the validity of the Action Office model that was created in the early 1960s by Robert Propst, with homogenous, universal, anonymous and repetitive spaces, a spatial solution little suited to current workplace requirements.

This project seeks to create an inspiring space that fosters encounters between workers in a creative agency, creating “spaces of spontaneous collaboration.” Due to the tight design and building deadlines (16 weeks), the functionality, low cost and speed of the construction were essential aspects of the project’s development. The program was designed around the concept of an “elastic band,” created by 174 prefabricated lightweight and structural wooden panels installed on site, able to contain every use thanks to their flexible and permeable structures, while still able to be broken down into smaller spaces to generate 1,281 square meters of usable space in the entire existing area.•

MANADA is an open, collaborative architectural studio dedicated to confronting the limits of architecture. It was founded in 2007 by Katerina Alatzia (Köln, 1980), who graduated in Architecture from the RWTH, Aachen, and Alejandro Tapia (Mexico City, 1976), a graduate in Architecture and Urbanism from the Universidad Iberoamericana.

En últimas décadas, la arquitectura de oficinas ha ido demeritando el modelo de Action Office originado a principios de la década de los años sesenta por Robert Propst, con espacios homogéneos, universales, anónimos y repetitivos que representan una solución espacial deficiente para los espacios de trabajo actuales. Este proyecto pretende generar un espacio inspirador que propicia los encuentros entre trabajadores en una agencia de creativos, creando “espacios de colaboración espontánea”.

Debido al apretado calendario de proyecto y ejecución (16 semanas), la funcionalidad, economía y velocidad en la construcción fueron parte esencial del itinerario del proyecto. El programa se gestionó mediante una “banda elástica”, formada por 174 paneles de madera prefabricados, ligeros y estructurales instalados en sitio, capaz de albergar la totalidad de usos gracias a su flexibilidad y permeabilidad, sin perder la capacidad de fragmentarse en espacios menores, y permite generar 1,281 m2 de espacios aprovechables en el total del área existente.•

MANADA es una oficina abierta colaborativa, dedicada a la confrontación de los límites de la arquitectura, fundada en 2007 por Katerina Alatzia (Köln, 1980), ingeniera en Arquitectura por la RWTH de Aachen, y Alejandro Tapia (ciudad de México, 1976), Arquitecto y Urbanista por la Universidad Iberoamericana.
