Known nationally as a pioneering firm in the design and delivery of sustainably designed, contextually sensitive market-rate and affordable multifamily residences, RKTB Architects has announced the elevation of Joseph Berlinghieri, NCARB, AIA, to the role of Associate, with the continuation of that tradition into the future as a stated goal.

A driving force behind some of the firm’s most successful work in housing and a key contributor to recently completed works such as 700 Manida Street in Bronx, NY (image), Berlinghieri’s expertise and acumen have helped to arrive at creative, cost-effective solutions for sustainable design, operational efficiency, and resident health and satisfaction.

“Joe has been an asset to us and to our clients since joining RKTB in 2017,” says partner and managing principal Peter Bafitis, AIA. “The developers and municipal agencies we work with have greatly benefited not only from his skills as an architect and designer, but also from his considerable knowledge of zoning rules and building codes.”

Bafitis adds, "We’re very excited and proud to have him in a new leadership role within the firm.”

Berlinghieri came to RKTB with a B.A. in Art History from Providence College and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Michigan’s College of Architecture and Urban Planning, as well as considerable professional experience in the roles of senior project architect and senior architectural designer. His portfolio amassed prior to joining RKTB earned him a 2015 Building Brooklyn Arts & Culture Award honor for his work as project designer on the Greenwood Cemetery Crematorium, in addition to separate honors for his work on a 150,000-square-foot apartment building project completed in 2007.

Complementing his experience with residential design and construction administration, Berlinghieri’s skill sets include thorough familiarity with Revit and Bluebeam, and experience ranging from parking structures and façade systems to detailed millwork and kitchen and bath design.
