Amenta/Emma Architects is pleased to announce that the firm has been selected to design the Discovery Academy in Wethersfield, CT, a new PK-5th Grade magnet school for CREC (the Capitol Regional Educational Council). The 62,500 square foot facility will include the complete renovation of a former CL&P office building, as well as an addition that will house the Gymnasium, Stage, Cafeteria and Kitchen. The school's magnet themes are STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and Literacy, with a focus on hands-on, project based learning that takes place not only in the classroom, but in public interior and exterior exhibit/exposition spaces. The facility will be designed to qualify for LEED Silver certification.
