The New England chapter of the American Institute of Architects announced the winners of its annual Design Awards program which recognizes design excellence in projects located in New England or by New England architects.
Amenta Emma was honored with a Citation Award for Excellence in Architecture as well as a People's Choice Award for its Symmetry Partners project at a celebration held on September 30 at the historic US Customs House in Portland, Maine.
In this contemporary adaptive re-use of an aging and vacant data center, Amenta Emma designers were challenged to bring daylight deep into the 40,000 square-foot building, and to stretch the budget with the creative use of raw, industrial materials.
"A clever example of transforming the ubiquitous into something new, a lot is accomplished with a little." -- Susan T. Rodriquez, FAIA, juror and keynote speaker.
