A design team from Clark Nexsen’s Raleigh office reimagined the classic Eames DSR chair as the DSR2 to support the Contemporary Art Museum in Raleigh, North Carolina. Inspired by the premise that “Good design is meant to be shared,” the chair comfortably seats two while emphasizing the iconic profile of the original. It features an interchangeable section that can be fabricated in a variety of materials, textures, and colors.

The design took home the People’s Choice award at the 2014 Good Design Challenge hosted by Herman Miller and Alfred Williams & Company. The annual design event challenges local design firms to create a functional work of art using the Eames molded plastic side chair.

The design team included Corey Baughman, Matt Koonts, Anthony Garcia, Anna Traylor, Jordan Gray, Rob Harkey, Jon Cardenas, William Pate, Cathleen Campbell, Erika Jolleys, and Becky Brady.

The chairs were judged during a reception on November 7, 2014 at CAM in downtown Raleigh. The DSR2 chair received the most votes to earn the People's Choice award and had the highest auction price of the night with a winning bid of more than $600. All money raised benefits CAM Raleigh's education and community programs.
