When you walk into this Manhattan Beach residence, you feel a sense of serenity from its smooth lines and overall cohesion. Within the home, you will find wood that brings warmth to its minimalist-oriented interiors, which was the overall vision that LMD Architecture Studio had delivered on. Every inch of this small lot is dynamically used to fit the contemporary design aesthetic of the homeowner.

The lines of the exterior similarly produce an artistic statement, including the use of textured, warm yet durable building materials. Central to the three-story structure is the sculptural staircase that seamlessly connects all three floors of the home while allowing natural light to fill in the interior spaces. The upper level which includes the kitchen, living room, dining room, and powder room flows to the outdoor viewing deck and its unobstructed views from Catalina Island to Malibu. The bedrooms and bathrooms are located on the middle level, providing a private and restful retreat. The ground floor includes a multipurpose room and bathroom off the garage, designed with the beach lifestyle in mind where the boundary between the outside and inside disappears, creating a harmonious space for the clients to use according to their needs. It was important to develop the home to its maximum capacity, while also creating a sense of fluid movement.

"The goal was to develop the property to its maximum capacity, allowing for all the amenities of a larger property. In the beginning, our clients understood the program was aggressive, but they had all the hopes that we would be able to deliver. It was rewarding to witness their satisfaction with all that was accomplished on all counts in this project, particularly with the aesthetics and the efficient use of all corners of the property.”— Luis Murillo
