The interior remodel of an existing kitchen 260 sq.ft. kitchen in an existing 2,000 sq.ft. one story single family home. The owners both long time residence of Los Angeles and the owners of a successful entertainment business and a prominent pilates studio have been dreaming of having a modern European style kitchen for years. As a gift for his wife and daughter who spend most of their time together in the kitchen mom cooking and daughter making art. The main problem is mom and her daughter compete for the limited space available in the existing kitchen to store their favorite tools...and in recent years her daughter has been winning a greater and greater share of that space.
Therefore, part of the new program is to expand the breakfast banquet and increase connectivity by removing an arched opening while adding storage drawers under the banquet seats for the young artist to store her tools and materials. The second part of the program, is to add as much storage space as possible and to incorporate many of the ingenious advancements in kitchen cabinetry design available today to maximize storage space for mom. The third part of the program, is to incorporate a new kitchen island with two seats so friends can sit with mom in the kitchen while she's entertaining. The island had to incorporate a large chopping friendly surface, compost storage, and as much storage as possible. Last but not least is to add a double oven in some where in a kitchen of very modest size.
Our solution which is a collaboration between GO design, the home owners, and the great staff at Epoxy Green (www.epoxygreen.com) in Venice California is described in the accompanying sketch diagrams.
