Home

Home is a monument commissioned by the City of Kobe commemorating the sister city relationship of Incheon, South Korea and Kobe, Japan. The monument si situated in the Sculpture Garden at Incheon Grand Park.

The concept for the sculptural monument started by looking at the meaning of ‘home’ and its significance in private and public domains. Home represents a family; family at home seeks peace, harmony and support for each other.

Home is a social ground for family, relatives and friends to engage and a place where common grounds meet. Social engagement in public ground is the concept for “Home” sculpture. While it lacks many of the typical elements of a house such as roof and wall surfaces, public spaces are open for all people to enjoy the environment without a physical barrier present.

The wall-less framing structure suggests that the programmatic activities are not to be bound by the frame boundary of the house. Rather, it allows the incorporation of surrounding environment that can be seen through and reflected on the surfaces; the structure blends in and the frame disappears
