Small cities usually lack for public space of good quality – multifuncional, progressive; one, used by city inhabitants without restraint. This is why our project for municipal library is not only institution for borrowing books, but also a public space.
Here kids can borrow their favourite tales, come for private lessons or workshops. Teenagers can use hot spot and quiet reading room, adults may enjoy reading in bright, moody spaces and using the library for meetings, debates, professional workshops and movie shows. The municipal library in Kolno becomes urban forum - place for meetings and debates, but also quiet space for contemplating the book, building personal relationship with written words.
Flexible spatial arrangement of the library, which deftly and effectively distributes functions inside the volume, let comprehensive use of the library spatial scheme in bigger cities as well as in smaller villages. That library always has the desirable added value – multifunctional public space which makes the library goers active users of the space. Therefore, 'public' is not only adjective in the institution's name, but characteristic feature of the space.
