SHI ZHI RESORT HOTEL HUA SHAN

This hotel complex is located at the foot of what is recognised as one of the five sacred Taoist mountains of China. Steeped in legends, Hua Shan has been worshipped for its abundant biodiversity and for its cultural and historical significance for many centuries. It is undergoing consideration as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The master plan was based on taking a Brownfield site (an old granite quarry) and turning it into a Greenfield site by rehabilitating and reshaping the landscape and topography. Hence, the entire resort is built into the bowl of the granite quarry that had become a natural wetlands area.

A 236-room five-star hotel connected to a 400-room four-star hotel make up the hotel complex. Designed as a landscape, the architecture emulates Hua Shan before it and as a continuation of the concept into the interiors simulates within the notion of dwelling in a cave. This is reminiscent of some traditional habitations of Shaanxi province. The interior is designed as an archaeological and geological exploration through the landscape. While contemporary, it explores some of the unique historical features of Shaanxi province, such as the many artifacts buried in the earth, including the terracotta warriors. Hua Shan's naturally complex landforms and the rich historical and cultural heritage of Xi An, the capital of Shaanxi province were key sources of inspiration.

The restaurants, lounges and bars are designed as a food street that links the four-and five-star hotels into a seamless F&B experience.
