Conversion and extension of a dilapidated 250 year old “Cow Shed” into a three bed residential home
This was a conversion and extension of a dilapidated 250 year old “Cow Shed” into a three bed residential home for a downsizing retiring couple whose children had left home.
The brief was to maintain the open feel of the barn in order to create a modern open plan living space whilst retaining the heritage of the building and maximising the tremendous views over West Yorkshire towards the Pennines.
The main accommodation is located in the larger of the two barns, where exposed Queen Post trusses and sympathetic radiused reveals to the windows offer a traditional barn feel to the building. The smaller of the two barns accommodates two bedrooms.
The addition of a modern sun room which follows the form of the extended gable end, albeit with a contemporary modern glazed façade, offers stunning wide ranging views over the garden and surrounding countryside. The transformation from “Cow Shed” to modern home is remarkable.
