This project involves the construction of a new garage in an established Houston neighborhood. A garage was built when the home was new in the 70's, however, disrepair required the demolition of the garage but the foundation remained. Complicating the project, rebuilding on the original garage foundation would create a non-compliant structure and so, the original foundation had to be abandoned. The new, compliant, location would not allow adequate maneuverable space for two cars, so a single car enclosure was designed, which allowed the large, open back yard to stay that way. The new design features significant built in storage, translucent, insulated panel walls for ample natural light, and a large covered patio with designed lighting, ceiling fan and roll-in/roll-out alcohol fireplace.
