Tree House in Arraiolos

The house develops around an old holmoak. The tree is the core of a courtyard that articulates the several constructed volumes. Clearly a mediterranean inspired project, the white walls, the gores and holes in walls and ceilings maximize the light expression, contrasting with the blue sky and the Alentejo woods landscape. Water is brought to the courtyard to soften the air temperature, but also to induce freshness and to produce sounds, glows and reflections. Located on the top of a small hill, the house has two floors. The upper one, fully painted white, harbours the main entry. The lower floor has only partial development and results of two stone walls that spread down the hill, defining a pool and a garden, and enclosing an office, living areas and a small cellar. All other rooms are located on the top floor. Each bedroom has a small courtyard that eases the interior exterior relation, establishing a kind of a private garden.
