Hardangervidda National Park Center

The National Park Center is located on a hill with beutiful view over the lake Mjøsvatn and the National Park is visible at distance.  It was this magnificent view and the formation of the hillside that became the creator of the idea together with the Norwegian tradition to climb the hillsides in order to conquer the with of the mountain, walking between lodges.

I noticed that this beutiful scenery at the site wasn´t visible before one entered the top of the hill.  Therefore the building is made as a travel in the mountainous landscape striving to reach the top in order to be able to enjoy the scenery at last. Therefore the stone wall is leading as staircase all the way from the parking place and to the top such that the visitors must work their way to the scenery just as in the landscape they visit. That is why the building is relatively closed until one reaches the glasscase that reveals the scenery reaching out in almost free float above the landscape at last giving the reward for the climbing.
