A contemporary hotel providing state-of-the-art amenities for international travelers located in the heart of Kyoto's historical district. Between a 1,500-year-old temple and a water garden in the historical district of Kyoto sits a site that presented both exciting opportunities and unique challenges for a hospitality development. Berjaya wanted to create a luxury resort that pays respect to the history of the area while also attracting guests from around the globe as Kyoto’s international tourism continues to rise.
MG2 hospitality market leader Ron Mitchell’s design for the hotel draws upon a mixture of traditional and contemporary materials to create a state-of-the-art guest experience that honors the heritage of the site. Mitchell’s relationship with Four Seasons created an opportunity to bring them on board as the hotel operator, establishing their second flag in Japan. One of the ways the hotel reflects the city’s culture is in a traditional tea house on the grounds, which MG2 designed alongside a Japanese architect versed in the customary form. Other amenities including restaurants, a spa, and wedding facilities complete with a chapel to attract guests from around the world.
