Amsterdam, NL
After being refurbished by a real estate broker, this typical 'Amsterdam school' house did not have any space for storage. To provide for this space and keep as much usable floorspace unprogrammed, a large closet is placed in the spacious staircase. The function of the closet changes with each floor. At the entrance the closet contains the wardrobe, walking up the stairs one finds mail trays, shoe closet, a fireplace, papercabinet, wine rack, bookshelves and storage for clothing. Large see through spaces and smaller peekholes keep the light atmosphere in the house and create visual relations between staircase, livingroom and topfloor.
