White Kindergarten

Recognizing a kindergarten as one of the first spaces where children experience and begin to understand architecture, we approached each design element in this project as a metaphor for a toy block. The building itself, along with a nearby functional shed, benches, swings, lamps, and grassy play hills, all contribute to this playful concept.

The original form of the building was reimagined by expanding each of its four wings to create a more spacious and clear functional layout, while also highlighting its distinctive cross-shaped floor plan. On the ground level, we introduced a playful pattern of textures through various arrangements of concrete paving tiles, creating a patchwork that defines walking paths and parking areas.

The reconstruction and expansion project for Nursery No. 31 in Warsaw aims to increase the number of available childcare spaces, improve the facility's functionality, and optimize the technical and outdoor infrastructure, ensuring better conditions for both children and staff. The project includes the renovation of the existing building, expansion with additional cubic volume, and the reorganization of internal spaces, with maximum use of the existing infrastructure.

The goal of the expansion is to increase the number of child places from the current 75 to 200 by adding new space on the southern side of the building. This new volume provides additional children’s rooms on both the ground and first floors. Each room was designed as a multi-functional space, with separate areas for play and rest. The rooms will provide a good access to daylight as well as ventilation due to their corner placement.

A major change in the building's layout is the redesign of the staircases. Two staircases were redesigned to maintain their original positions, but to allow them to connect the three floors. Additionally, a new technological hub was created in the central part of the building, providing easy access to all areas and ensuring two evacuation routes from every location in the building.
