THROUGH THE LOOKING PRISM

Collaborator: ambiguous (lighting designer)

Project description
Bangkok has cultivated a liberal and rich culture that embraces diversity and values exchange. In our contemporary society, which is becoming more heterogeneous, fragmented, and complex, we must envision a new way of coexisting. We propose a window that consists of a glass prism wall. This window will allow us to see multiple perspectives and possibilities for the future.

Chao Phraya River is lined with temples that glow in the dark. As you approach the structure, you can catch glimpses of your own silhouette and those of other visitors, merging and splitting in a kaleidoscopic display. Through the prism, you can see the city in a new light. The prisms distort and enhance the urban scenery, creating a contrast between day and night.

Technical description
This installation consists of 300 pieces of glass prisms supported by a sandblast-finished stainless steel frame. Each glass prism follows the large-size commercial glass prism, 30mm x 30mm X 150mm. They are fixed to the frame with a wedge supported with an adhesive connection. The height of the frame is 1900 mm in height and 2000mm in width, which is portable by the truck, and able to be carried and assembled by the labor. Self-weight helps to stabilize the installation, which is resistant to the wind. After the exhibition, this structure was relocated to the one of the largest flower markets in the world, Bangkok Blossom Market.
