The Tangram House has a different volumetry inspired by the game of the same name, a puzzle of Chinese origin that consists of geometric pieces that combine to make other shapes.
The single block of land with a fan shape made it difficult to adopt orthogonal lines for the implantation and volumetry of the house. So we worked on a prism-shaped plan that follows the different geometric orientations of the plot. Following the same guideline, the building's volumetry arises from the composition of different volumes, which come together in a free composition that accommodates the program of uses and the irregular terrain. It's like a Tangram game where different fragmented shapes make up a cohesive and harmonious whole.
The land, as well as being irregular in shape, also had a steep drop towards the corner, of approximately 3 meters. At the request of the residents, the internal garden had to be flat and accessible in relation to the level of the house. That's why we established an internal plateau, through an embankment, which ensured a large, long garden with a lawn, solarium and swimming pool. On the street side, the land slopes freely, following the original topography, conformed at the corner by the retaining wall, which we used as an aesthetic element, curved, highlighting the built volume of the house, which appears in balance.
The house's most prominent volume is an inverted prism painted white, the narrowest part of which touches the ground, housing the social entrance. The inclined angle of this volume is due to the shape of the staircase, which, in negative, forms this gap, like a sculpted white cube. It is also in this prism that the main circulation axis of the house is located, integrating kitchen spaces, living rooms, the intimate wing and the upper floor, within a double-height environment, amply illuminated by a glass skylight.
