At night, the illuminated Huaxi LIVE Wukesong Ice Center integrates seamlessly into the urban flow of the Wukesong commercial district and the western stretch of Chang'an Avenue, where vibrant ice crystals sparkle in the night sky, creating a captivating atmosphere.
Located at the southeast corner of the site, the Wukesong Ice Center boasts a total construction area of 38,960 square meters, with above-ground space of 16,400 square meters and underground space of 22,560 square meters.
The Ice Crystals
Ultra-Low Energy Consumption Training Venue
Huaxi LIVE Wukesong Ice Center features two standard ice rinks measuring 30x61 meters each. The northern rink can be adjusted in size according to event requirements. The northern standard ice hockey rink includes 1,703 spectator seats, while the southern training rink accommodates 204 seats. This setup not only meets the demands of large-scale ice events and professional training but also offers flexible, modern, and easily convertible spaces that can adapt to various functions in the future, continuously generating commercial value and empowering the surrounding business district and city.
Super Complex
Strong Experience, Multifunctional, Sustainable
Moreover, the design of specific functional spaces must meet professional requirements while being convenient for daily operations and adaptable for different events. For instance, movable wall panels are used to facilitate changing room space division; more efficient ventilation and drying systems are implemented; and player and referee passageways are fully covered with rubber flooring.
Design Value
From Professional Venue to Vibrant Color
The vibrant colors of Huaxi, symbolizing youth, vitality, and dynamism, are interspersed throughout the space. Shimmering cubes evoke the inspiring spirit of sports and the vitality of Huaxi LIVE. Modern materials such as aluminum panels and back-painted glass ensure a clean and user-friendly interior, guaranteeing the building's durability as a sports venue. From external branding to internal functional guidance, the comprehensive wayfinding system enhances the building’s stylish atmosphere while providing intuitive and efficient material and color strategies.
Since June 2022, the Huaxi LIVE Wukesong Ice Center has been fully open to the public, offering ice sports experiences, cultural exchange activities, and commercial services. As one of the core buildings of the Wukesong Cultural Sports Center, the sunken courtyard and plaza pathways create a smooth interconnection between the ice sports center and public spaces. Visitors navigate through these areas, where the vibrant spirit derived from sports bestows a unique charm to the ice center.
The Huaxi LIVE Wukesong Ice Center is currently the largest passive ultra-low energy sports building, featuring fully integrated smart technologies that offer a convenient and efficient user experience. This gives the venue a milestone significance beyond its event functions. After four years, the Huaxi LIVE Wukesong Ice Center serves as a bridge, fulfilling the training venue role and commemorative significance of the Winter Olympics. Post-Olympics, it has become one of Beijing's most important ice and snow-themed sports buildings, rekindling public enthusiasm for ice sports. Centered around the spirit of sports, it drives the surrounding cultural and commercial activities, transforming the area into a vibrant, year-round hub that seamlessly blends sports and leisure.
