J Kumar House

The newest edition to Mumbai’s pioneering business district is a novel workspace in Vile Parle, Mumbai. J Kumar House by Vivek Bhole Architects brought the client’s dream of having a dynamic office space in the city. The project was ideated based on the client’s requirement whose intent was to have segregation of places ensuring both smooth movement of visitors as deemed necessary, the privacy of each of the Directors and also ensuring smooth functioning of business activities.

Sprawled across 50,000 sq. ft, the contemporary decor of this workplace stems from the futuristic vision of the client. Specific parts in the design have been envisioned on an aesthetic theme based on the profession of the client. Since the client is in the construction business the design theme explored volumes with a parametric method.

Divided across four floors, the team innovatively visualised the building as a multi-dimensional space that caters to the diverse needs of the employees and employers. The front facade decked up in glass, gives an illusion of a parametric facade in three dimensions which makes it interesting.

The ground floor of the building is planned for most of the key functions and services including a service block, conference room and admin area which also includes a dispatch area for the materials and their samples. The reception area includes a parametric exploration that depicts the fluidity of concrete as well as its quality. The first floor of the building largely consists of working space for various departments segregated in one large area without any visual interruption of structural members.

The third floor combines office space, cabins, cubicles and a conference room. Here, the conference room is wrapped up in an exquisite rectangular shape that covers the conference room in an oval shape. The Voronoi pattern (The patterns express the mathematical Vornoi pattern) serves as the backdrop of the cubicles on either side of the conference room.

The recreational space of the entire structure is located on the fourth floor on an open terrace which is filled with biophilic elements. Overall the design is more about the contemporary design infused with a touch of technology.
