The building - short UMAK (Universität Mozarteum am Kurgarten) - is located in the immediate neighborhood of the Paracelsus Bad & Kurhaus, which was also realized by BERGER + PARKKINEN and opened in 2019. Thanks to their clear, identity-creating architectural language, the two buildings will form a focal point in the historic center of Salzburg. The student use, in combination with the streams of visitors to the Bad & Kurhaus, will bring a sustainable revitalization to the northwestern area of the Kurgarten.

In their design, the architects paid particular attention to the morphology of the Kurgarten with its former fortifications and to the accentuation of the open spaces. The fundamental idea of the design is to make the transition from the baroque complex of Mirabell Palace to the Wilhelminian Markus-Sittikus-Straße tangible.
