Flower Street 🌷
• Enclosure.
Many of us live in enclosed boxes distancing ourselves from the outside environment with our electronic gadgets and air filtering systems.
Southern California has large amount of sunlight and a limited amount of water, therefore photovoltaics, water filtration and recycling are essential in the urban and rural landscape.
It is known, in a biological pretext, the only way to grow is through suffering "no pain no gain". Species evolve across generation by adapting to an ever-changing harsh environment. Nature is a beautiful cycle that insures the survival of the fittest.
• Environment adaptation.
I believe: We, people today have ceased to adapt to the environment and instead we are modifying the environment to adhere to our desires. In consequence, many species necessary for the ecosystem are going instinct. This project strives to connect people to nature, to other species, and to an evolving ecosystem. The Idea driving this project is to create livable space in which residents are more connected and benefit from the perks of the changing seasons.
• Dynamic pivoting.
The dynamic aspect of this project allows for structural and mechanical adaptation for the different seasons.
The open core passively allows for natural light and ventilation: limiting moisture, and maximizing air supply. During the winter, for instance, the structure closes and becomes more thermally enclosed to maintain interior heat gains. Whereas; during the summer, the structure is open, allowing for more sunlight
and ventilation. In summer time the units increase in square footage and outdoor spaces.
