To rethink the spaces of a healthcare facility means to reflect the professionalism, efficiency and organizational capacity of the facility itself. It also means that the Architect has to see the world from the perspective of its users, subjects who are in a momentary condition of fragility. The Architect must try to define environments that can welcome these frail users and make them feel "at home".
It is from these assumptions that the restyling project of some areas of a private hospital in Milan started. We have tried to combine the functional and technical implementation of existing spaces with the search for a new image of domesticity that would maintain a thread of continuity with respect to some pre-existing elements.
The entrance spaces were redefined by eliminating the previous internal divisions and configuring a single room with double exposure to increase the presence of natural light, characterized by the use of oak for custom furnishings such as the reception counter. The glass for the boxes of the acceptance counters -ensures the privacy of patients without sacrificing light and transparency between spaces. The use of the petrol blue colour for the side walls and the seats of the waiting area gives greater depth to the environment and characterizes its identity.
Finally, the design of the new wayfinding system was another important element of recognition for the new spaces, supporting a better orientation within the structure and identifying the location of the different functions and specialties.
