The recreational house, for which the priority was to create a private, fenced space, was designed by Przemek Olczyk from the Mobius Architekci studio, based in the capital of Poland - Warsaw. The sprawling villa is characterized by an original wall, redefining the traditional homestead of Masurian residences.
Located in the vicinity of a Masurian lake in Poland, Wall House constitutes the fulfilment of investors’ dreams of a holiday home with a swimming pool. The architect, Przemek Olczyk, placed it facing the lake, opening the body to the most attractive frames. A road designed at an angle leads to the building and continues behind the house. Like a ribbon, it leads guests through geometric alleys filled with greenery and spacious interiors, finally to the marina by the lake.
The challenge was to spatially separate the house with an open layout and a rich utility program from the neighbouring plots. This is how Wall House was created.
“This was what the investors wanted: full freedom and intimacy of using the open space of the house, which turned into a large terrace with a swimming pool and jacuzzi, while maintaining an unobstructed view of the surroundings. In addition, an important design assumption was to create an acoustic barrier for the neighbouring buildings,” emphasizes Przemek Olczyk, the architect.
He adds: “An aesthetic screen, which effectively separates the space, turned out to be the right solution here. In fact, it is the effect of extending the internal walls of the house, thanks to which the architecture is a natural continuation, eliminating all visual barriers.”
Wooden beams separated by glass planes create a characteristic wall, referring on one hand to the stud adjacent to the house, and on the other to the traditional fences of Masurian buildings. The almost 3-meter-high fence also constitutes the most important element of the design, distinguishing it and shaping its individual character, as well as giving Wall House its name.
Wall House owes its simple and legible interior layout to consistently drawn, long lines. The architect led them parallel to the walls closing the body, but opening the interior to the surroundings. Perpendicularly designed glass walls divide 700 square meters of space, ensuring its transparency and excellent interior lighting. “On one hand, they open to the lake, and on the other to the internal atrium, giving a sense of huge space. Standing in the centre of the building, you can see the entire surface of the house at the same time,” emphasizes Olczyk.
The interiors are dominated by wood, referring to the tradition of Masurian houses, evoking associations with yachting, holiday relaxation and a passion for sports. Natural materials are accompanied by glass and aluminium, which determines the modern character of Wall House. “Wall House is an eco-friendly house, packed with the latest technologies that optimize water and energy consumption,” points out Olczyk.
