Frangipani is a residential development spread across a sprawling area of 42,300 Sq Ft. Designed as split villas, the striking architecture reveals a scenic fabrication premeditated for its residents. The site necessitates a self-sustained design engaging conceptualized views and vistas. The introverted villa captures intricately modelled components that weave the design narrative together. The villas look inwards to these invoking details.
The design of the villa captures a contemporary stance articulated by simple geometry. Defined by straight lines, the minimalistic elevation imparts a serene illusion. Architectural expressions composed by the architects render horizontality to the mass. The design is aided by bold manifestation of linearity in the spatial configuration. The rectangular forms are assembled to create a play of light and shadow. Propagating the ‘less is more’ ideology, the architectural functionality defines the form. A clutter-free, functional and simple space is conceived through careful design interventions.
The conception of a closed horseshoe form for the residential unit allows maximising the plot area. This form also accommodates a central green common across all the villas. The various units that constitute the final form are assembled to resonate the principles of Vastu Shastra, maximising gains from nature. Each module mirrors itself to fabricate a balanced entity constituting to the final form. The clusters composed of the replicating modules comprise a continuation of open spaces across the design. Landscape has been treated as an important architectural feature to reveal scenic views from the villas while maintaining an ecological balance.
A hierarchical distribution of open spaces from individual units to community level can be observed in the design. Each of the villas has been provided with a central pocket garden and a private pool. The central lawn spatially divides the villa into two functional zones whilst allowing unrestricted flow of wind and filtered daylight into the two volumes. The front section houses the dining, kitchen and maid room, while the rear section accommodates the lounging and bedding areas. The transition between public and private spaces is softly defined by the massing. The inception of the central green court not only aesthetically enhances the space but also contributes to energy efficiency through its precise articulation. The central court reduces the micro heat island effect generated by urban forms by its vast green cover. It also provides some mesmerising views encapsulated by the lush landscape. The private pool along with the feature of a water spout provides an ambient acoustic feature for the residents along with supplementing the day lighting performance of the units. Frangipani trees and bougainvillea shrubs planted on elevated planters are perceived as spatial segregators between two villas. The rear setback of the plot is transformed to a green space.
An attempt to fuse the built and un-built elements can be observed in the design. The villas have been perceived to integrate with their surroundings. The design seeks to restore the natural affinity of humans with their natural surroundings. The built environment comes alive with tactful amalgamation of natural elements in the design. A raw experience entailing explorative design elements has been created for the users. The green areas seamlessly blend with the built forms perceived as part of an inclusive design process. The design narrative weaved by the architects encompasses a comprehensive planning process that impart tranquillity and serenity through subtle and precise intricacies introduced in the design.
