The concept, drawings and prototypes of the desk were headed up by HUT architects Alex Arundel and Joe Magri, with the whole team being involved in the construction in HUT’s new workshop.
The eighteen desks (one for each HUT member) are constructed out of Birch plywood and have a customised coloured linoleum top. The desk, cut using CNC technology, is designed to be in twelve pieces that can easily slot together with no additional fixings and remain in place with adhesive glue. The accuracy and speed of the CNC manufacturer ensures a precise and streamlined finish to the desk, with no visible joints, sharp edges and a soft grain. A cable tray and a grommet hole on the interior underbelly provides efficient and neat cable management. At hand reaching level is a small hidden ‘glove compartment’ for storage and to minimalise desktop clutter.
