Luxury ocean view vacation homes are a new phenomenon in China and essentially currently limited to apartments.  When China Resources Land, one of China’s most prestigious developers, decided to break ground in this market and provide hillside ocean view villas they carried out extensive research that brought them to look closely at our work.  After showing them around our projects in Thailand and Hong Kong, they came to recognise our abundant experience in designing luxury contemporary villas and on taming steep and complicated hillside sites.  This led them to ask us to bring our magic to Xiaojing Bay.

Efficiency is the key to success with such difficult topography, where crafting roads to make them comfortable and safe whilst using as little land as possible is an art form.  With the aid of extensive computer and physical modelling, we created a clean and topographically sympathetic road network that provides every villa with an unobstructed view to the bay.  Capitalising on the efficient distribution system in our Master Plan, we set our principal architectural objective to be making the most of the stunning outlook from each site.  Although the various types have distinct demographic objectives, this guiding force influenced the shaping of them all into a family of cascading architectural gems with breathtaking features.

As an architect, it is very gratifying to be asked to fulfill the three principal design roles in a development.  At Skyline Villas, China Resources recognised our skills in Master Planning, Architecture and Interior Design and with them wanting to take cohesive and integrated designs to their increasingly sophisticated clientele, we were granted the privilege of doing just that.

Such an arrangement provided us the opportunity of creating design continuity where the Interiors have been developed to reflect the architecture by bringing warmth and texture to the minimalist lines and thereby enhancing the aura of being on the waterfront.

Our Architectural design philosophy focused on clean, uncomplicated space paying homage to the view and forming a relaxing contemporary waterfront tropical resort environment and lifestyle experience where indoor and outdoor space are completely integrated.  With massing, the villas are low key and appear to grow out of the natural landscape. Each of the six types have hierarchically different layouts and design features targeting a wide array of end users.  These range from the smaller Townhouse and Duplex types to the larger Periscope and Viewfinder villas with the majority enjoying private swimming pools, terraces and gardens.
