Founded in 1993 by David Hacin AIA, Hacin + Associates is an architecture and design studio located in the arts district of Boston’s South End. H+A’s dedicated team of design professionals has built a broad portfolio of projects that have received numerous awards and been widely published in books and magazines in the United States and around the world. H+A team members bring together diverse professional and educational backgrounds and interests, including architecture and interior design as well as urban, industrial and furniture design.
Our vision of design and service without boundaries reflects a collective commitment to all aspects of the creative process without any prescribed limitations on project type, approach or outcome. Working with individuals and groups from all manner of private, public, non-profit, institutional and commercial backgrounds, H+A serves our clients’ needs in ways that consistently exceed expectations, build trust and invite longer term partnership and collaboration.
Since its start, H+A has designed distinctive single-family homes, lofts and apartments. We have gone on to design and build hundreds of units of affordable to high luxury multi-unit housing in a wide variety of settings and communities. We are a leader in artist and loft housing and active in the preservation and adaptive reuse of historic structures; indeed, our projects have often been credited with heralding the revitalization of new urban districts. H+A has also been active in designing specifically for the public realm with projects that range from a small-scale city park to working with large multi-disciplinary teams on landmark development along Boston’s emerging waterfront.
In addition to architecture and urban design, H+A collaborates with private clients, retailers, entrepreneurs, and restaurateurs on a very broad range of commercial and residential interiors: For example, H+A has recently created innovative workspace solutions for the internationally acclaimed industrial design and branding firm IDEO, job training facilities for the homeless clients of the non-profit, Project Place, and residential interiors for the President’s House at Bentley College.
In retail, H+A has influenced the successful development of widely recognized international brands such as Fresh [a division of LVMH] and A.T. Cross. Our designs for individual and prototype retail stores are located across the United States, Europe and Asia and our retail furniture and ‘shop-in-shop’ fixtures can be found in the world’s most famous department stores. Widely featured in the design and fashion press, our award-winning retail interiors are acclaimed for being trend-setting and integral to the success of their brands.
