Since our first project in 1991, our approach is driven by an attention to the conceptual and the experiential. Shawn Hausman Design arose out of Shawn’s background in film and subsequently, our ideas are driven by the creation of narratives (oftentimes fictitious). We seek to create unconventional spaces imparted with wit and an idiosyncratic touch. Following his experience creating and running the infamously experimental New York nightclub, Area, Shawn perceives that places come alive through people and their interactions. This informs our overriding attention to how our interiors are experienced and how design can be employed to conjure an all-encompassing mood. Though we have taken on a number of unique private residences and company headquarters, our attention is devoted to the creation of offbeat, unique hotels and restaurants.
