An award-winning firm specializing in hospitality, education, and residential design, Wid Chapman Architects (WCA) approaches each project by synthesizing the client's program and point of view with contextual site conditions to create a concise and achievable architectural vision. The firm seeks to instill integrity and unity in spaces by holistically considering their architectural components as well as their interior design elements.
Visual brainstorming is the genesis of WCA’s hotel and restaurant designs, fine-tuned by its clients’ input and refinements. This pre-design phase helps solidify the “brand” for a project, leading to a successful finished environment. WCA has completed projects both domestically and internationally, in locations including New York, California, Colorado, Florida, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Washington State, the Dominican Republic, Korea, Malaysia, and Mexico.
WCA’s work has been featured nationally in Hospitality Design, Interior Design, New York Magazine, Architectural Record, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal, and internationally in Figaro Japan, Interiors India, International Design (I.D.), and Shotenkenchiku.
WCA is headed by Wid Chapman, AIA, who received his architectural education at the Rhode Island School of Design. A former chair of the interior design department of Parsons the New School for Design, he currently serves on its senior faculty. Wid has guest lectured in the U.S. as well as internationally in Brazil, the Dominican Republic, France, India, Malaysia, and Singapore. An authority on lifestyle design, he is co-author of the topical books Home Design in an Aging World (Fairchild Books, 2008) and Unassisted Living (Random House, 2011).
