FABRICA 718 is a collaborative design firm based in Brooklyn NY. We focus on projects that reinvent space within urban environments. We categorize our practice’s explorations into three main areas of investigation: work that studies the remainder spaces of the city; work that leads to reinvention which creates new meaning and ways of living; and work that retrofits to enable high performance and energy efficiency. Often these quests lead us simultaneously on low and high tech pathways that address materiality and fabrication methods. We are adapting to new ways of living and working while also incorporating green technologies. As we plan for urban smart living in the 21st Century, we love Passive House because it is highly energy efficient and leads to very low utility bills. We designed the first certified Passive House in NYC (a retrofit brownstone).
Awards include: 2014 Int'l Passive House Design Award, Passive House certification for Tighthouse 2012, Inc Magazine's Coolest Offices 2011 finalist a winner in the Total Housing 01: Apartments sponsored by Storefront for Art & Architecture 2010, Actar and Architizer, a 2010 Merit Award from NY American Society of Landscape Architects, and a 2006 NYC Green Bldg Award. Our work has been featured in Dwell, Interior Design, New York Times, New York Magazine, Topos, and Wired magazines as well as design blogs. We received several grants including the Kalil Fellowship for Smart Design and the AIA Stewardson Keefe Lebrun Travel Grant.
We have a new joint entity called Fabrica Studio Architect DPC. Look for upcoming projects by our collaborative joint entity.
