John Snyder is from upstate New York growing up in Rochester, NY in 1964. He is the founding principal of John Snyder Architects in Ithaca, NY, focusing on projects for higher education, multi-family development, and corporate and educational interiors. Mr. Snyder received his Bachelors of Architecture in design at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1992 and a diploma in Architectural Technology at Phoenix Institute of Technology in 1983.
In 1992 he won a design award from the Chicago Architectural Club and has received other awards in addition to winning design competitions in Chicago and Ithaca. In 2010 he attended the Glenn Murcutt masterclass in Australia. This intensive two week session was taught by Pritzer Architecture Prize winning and AIA Gold medal architect, Glenn Murcutt along with other respected Australian architects such as Richard Leplastier and Brit Andresen who were also recipients of the Gold Medal by the Royal Australian Institute of Architects.
Mr. Snyder has worked for firms in Rochester and Chicago prior to returning to upstate NY in 1993. In 1993 he assumed a position as Director of Design for a architecture and engineering firm located in Corning, NY. In 2003 he started John Snyder Architects, which has quickly grown to be a premier design firm in the upstate New York. His firm has completed projects across New York, Texas, Maryland and in South Korea. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects, a NCIDQ certified interior designer, NCARB certified and a LEED accredited professional. He is a licensed architect in New York, Pennsylvania and Texas.
He has served on the City of Ithaca Planning Board and has been a member of the City of Ithaca Design Review Board from 2003 through 2012. In addition to his work with the City of Ithaca, He served on the board of Historic Ithaca and the Community Arts Partnership. His firm is actively supports the State Theater, a historic art deco theatre.
