David Baena, Architect from the ETSAV-UPC, founded BCQ architecture studio in 1995. From the beginning he has combined the architectural design activity with teaching, mainly at the UIC School of Architecture in Barcelona, where he has been Professor of Construction since 1999 and Director of the technical area during the years 2008 to 2013. In the last decade, Manel Peribáñez, Maria Taltavull and Jordi Sánchez joined BCQ as partners, forming a multidisciplinary team of architects. The studio develops architecture, landscape and urban design projects in all their scales and dimensions, always prioritizing design quality, functionality and technical feasibility. The work of BCQ is exponent of the recent development of the architecture and the urban model of the city of Barcelona. In 2015, BCQ wins the Barcelona City Architecture Award and the Catalonia Construction Award for the Sant Gervasi-Joan Maragall Library, project also nominated for the European Mies van der Rohe Award among other mentions. In 2013, BCQ receives the international MIPIM Award in Cannes for the Alt Maresme Water Treatment Plant. Other significant recognitions have been the 2002 AJAC Award for the Municipal Indoor Pool Prototype in A Coruña, and the First Prize 2nd Vallès Architecture Biennial 2003 for the Public Works Building in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda. BCQ’s projects have been published and presented at national and international events and conferences.
