Socks is a non-linear journey through distant territories of human imagination.
Socks (socks-studio.com) is an online “magazine” founded and edited by Mariabruna Fabrizi and Fosco Lucarelli, two Italian architects currently living in Paris. Evolving its format over the years, Socks has become a platform for speculation and discussion and a complementary counterpart for their main architectural practice MICROCITIES.
The site is organized in several main categories (Media, Art, Architecture, Culture, Sounds, Territories and Technology) but it is intended to continuously question its limits. Opened in 2006 as an immaterial repository, Socks broadened its content and is currently configured as an expanding visual atlas.
Operating from a perspective outside the boundaries of architecture, Socks explores differents fields of investigation and reveals underlying affinities and unperceived relations through an approach that ranges from a pure curatorial practice to more in-depth analysis. Its articles follow a nonlinear sequence, not devoted to tell the newness, but to unveil permanences, correspondences and anachronisms in researches located far away in time and space.
Although a strict editorial direction is avoided, several recurring themes are spontaneously emerging through time, like patterns unveiled by a psychological analysis. Unfolding on the same surface, these traces provide both readers and authors unconventional viewpoints on visual and spatial knowledge. Dismantling traditional modes of classification, Socks aims to offer alternative tools for contemporary investigation and production.
