E X T E N T S is an Ann Arbor-based design practice that believes in mining the myriad ways that media and digital culture affect architecture and the built environment. Working across scales, we design installations and buildings; city blocks and geologic objects. In each project, our design approach is committed to manipulating digital culture in yield of novel material strategies, new spatial possibilities, and venues for vital public engagement. In doing so, we seek to renew architecture’s role as a medium of collectivity and common experience for diverse, contemporary, mediated audiences. The practice is led by McLain Clutter and Cyrus Peñarroyo, faculty members at the University of Michigan Taubman College of Architecture + Urban Planning.
