Steering House grew from the place where design and development combine to create environments that elevate experience.
Whether we’re approaching a design or a development, our process begins by identifying the natural state of a project and how those elements influence it’s character and potential; is it South facing and sun filled? Surrounded by industry or on a quiet, residential block? What exists there now that can and should be preserved or repurposed? What contribution did the history of the area have on the property’s past and how should that be considered in it’s future use and design?
We then have a careful discussion about the current and anticipated needs of the users; what are their space requirements and how should the space be used now and in the future? How big a presence should the kitchen have in the public space of the home? What material and aesthetic resonates most with the occupants? And, importantly, how much can we spend to achieve our goals?
From there we work to identify the best way to merge these elements into a functional, attractive and, ultimately, successful design and development through two and three-dimensional drawings, location visits and regular dialogue and exploration throughout the entire building process. Our in-house construction team allows us to accurately execute the pre-defined vision with maximum efficiency throughout this notoriously confounding yet critical phase in any project.
To date we’ve successfully designed and developed over 30,000 square feet of residential space, refining our process with each new project. We’re extremely hands on, excited about new ideas and passionate about preserving old and inventing new ways to enhance the living experience.
