Pita and Bloom is an architectural design collaborative based in Los Angeles. Started in 2010 by two experienced practitioners, Florencia Pita and Jackilin Hah Bloom focus their shared sensibilities on the production of figurative yet reimagined and unexpected designs. Through buildings large and small, environments indoor or outdoor, and objects to be viewed or used, Pita and Bloom aim to represent the current attitudes of contemporary culture while addressing each project’s specific challenges. Every venture is approached with disciplined experimentation and thoughtful research to provide a platform of interpretation of their work. Embracing the exuberant and prolific, Pita and Bloom utilize vivid color and reconfigured ornamentation with unexpected forms to challenge traditional material conventions. The work of Pita and Bloom includes competition proposals for world-class buildings such as the Guggenheim Museum in Helsinki, Finland, an housing ideas project in Maribor, Slovenia, and an urban park scheme in San Francisco, California. In January of 2014, Pita & Bloom were called “two female visionaries” in Architecture Magazine’s Next Progressives and were one of five finalists of the prestigious MoMA PS1 YAP competition. Both Florencia Pita and Jackilin Hah Bloom are active in architectural academia and currently teach design studios at the Southern California Institute of Architecture.
