Kirkwood McCarthy is a award winning architecture and design studio established in 2013 by Fiona Kirkwood and Sophie McCarthy.

Reputed for working on constrained or otherwise overlooked sites, we create buildings with highly resolved space planning that maximise site and setting that bring enjoyment and delight to the occupant. Our projects are award winning and receive wide coverage for their manipulation of space, light and use of material palette.

​We do not bring a fixed style or outcome, but rather apply intuition and skill to develop a design based on the opportunities of the site and personality of the end user.

Our buildings foster social interaction and forge an engagement with the outdoors. We capture natural daylight, views and ventilation through the manipulation of plan and section, and utilise mechanisms such as light wells, gardens and double height spaces to enhance the spatial and social experience. These manoeuvres achieve a heightened spatial quality and enhanced internal environment, making for buildings that belie the sites upon which they stand
