The aim of Skygate is to create a portal for the Taichung Gateway Park, becoming, at the same time, a new cultural landmark. Great emphasis is given to comfort, ecology, landscape, carbon reduction and disaster mitigation, as well as meeting the carbon emission target of the surrounding Taichung Gateway Park.
The concept of the project is based on two aspects, the first is formal simplicity, the second is superficial decoration. The building is also a big frame for the park. The building is divided in two parts, the museum and the library. The multi-faceted and accessible circulation and spatial planning engages the public. Offering a diverse and layered spatial experience, the Center will become the most attractive and charming recreational spot of the city.
The architecture of the library and fine arts museum wants to provide spaces independent from each other and yet in harmony. The exhibition area offers flexible spaces of different scales. The Center wants to provide exhibitions and information access in a variety of ways, allowing the public to explore using the latest display technology and interactive software programs. This space for group learning, discussion and interaction adapts to the changing world, new generations and new learning models. Assisted by intelligent technology, the latest information technology will reform the architecture with built-in automation controls and functions enhancing the use and management of the buildings.
The intelligent solar facade integrate a system for automated light control, according to daylight and night-time comfort for the different usage of the building. The Plaza, with its bower terraces for private leisure and public exhibitions , creates a green connection between the education area and the natural area af the Gateway Park.
