About

My name is Emma Riggs and I am currently working in a high-end residential architecture firm in Houston, Texas. I help manage and develop multiple projects ranging from new construction to renovation at around $500/sq ft construction cost.

My current employer offers architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture in-house, enabling me to work in all disciplines and phases of design throughout many projects. This has helped me to prepare for licensure and obtain over half of my required experience hours in all categories.

My academic architectural work acts as an aggregate of formalistic design and explorations of technology through structure and ecology. The territories and matters collected from various projects generate ideas and objects. This recontextualizes the environment into one that is sublimely familiar, yet integrated into the pre-existing ecology of the landscape. Working with sites such as Marfa and White Sands offered surreal scenes of proportion and objectivity ripe for architectural discourse. Both territories appear in my work as isolated and rugged terrains shaped by geological forces. The sparsely populated landscapes led to the consideration of specific programs with minimal civic restrictions leading to architectures of Superstructure.

Employment

I spend half of my time drafting in CAD and half in project and client management. This includes but is not limited to communicating with contractors, consultants and preparing for client meetings with the lead project managers.
