Designed for a large close-knit family, the basis of this house is a simple vernacular stone structure. The tall glazed living spaces bisect the mostly opaque stone box. This brings ample light and air to the center of the house, as well as spectacular cross-views between the front and rear gardens. A slight shift in geometry was used to sculpturally express the significance of the gathering spaces. This secondary geometry is also reflected in the entry, which effectively introduces visitors to the special spaces. Contrasting materials were used to further reinforce the intersecting geometries. The clean lines of the public volume stand in poetic juxtaposition to the rough local stone.
