Arcosanti by Paolo Soleri, 1970 - Today

In 1970, italian-born architect Paolo Soleri broke ground for an experimental city that would become the model of his most-grand visions of a smarter, more-complex urban project.  Arcosanti rests 65 miles north of Phoenix in Arizona high grasslands.  In practice, Arcosanti strives to fully exemplify the theory of “arcology”, a term Soleri coined to embody the synthesis of architecture and ecology.  Furthermore, the site is still yet unfinished, constantly in construction, continuing to evolve to this day.

In October 2018 I lived on-site for five weeks as one of the thousands of
past workshoppers who have built the city with their two hands.
