Experience design firm Eight Inc. has appointed Roy Kim as Principal, based out of its New York studio.

Kim will be tasked with further strengthening the firm’s offer and practice in New York City and the Eastern United States. Working strategically with Eight Inc.’s leadership, he will ensure the firm is positioned to deliver powerfully on its belief that design defines human progress.

As a practitioner, Kim will also lead the teams delivering Eight Inc.’s work, mentoring and empowering them to achieve project goals and visions. 

Kim is an experienced design leader and strategist whose work has shaped the skylines of New York, Miami and LA. He is driven by his curiosity, and his belief in the enduring power of design to improve people’s daily lives. He will report to Tim Kobe, Founder & CEO of Eight Inc.

Following a previous spell with Eight Inc. between 2004 and 2006, Kim went on to advise property developers throughout the project lifecycle, on design, development and brokerage. Most recently he was Chief Creative Officer at Douglas Elliman New Development, where he led the design, development and marketing of innovative multi-family dwellings. 

Kim has also founded his own company, Roy Kim Design, offering consulting services that stretch from architecture and interiors to business development and strategy. He is a long-term board member and former President of Open House New York.

A native of Vancouver, Kim holds an M.Arch and BSc from the University of British Columbia, and has taught the Masters of Real Estate program at Columbia University. His work has featured in Interior Design Magazine and the New York Times, as well as the documentary ‘Super Skyscrapers: the Billionaires’ Building’.
