From the moment I walked on the site, I was intrigued and encouraged by the forms left from the tube cuts. I saw the blast furnace as a living, moving object, like the heart. From the first pour in a furnace’s life to the last, it will endlessly pump hot air and raw ingredients in and steel and slag out. this is the life, energy, and movement I wish to capture in my project.
Movement Theater:
-Seeks to de-emphasize the stage and emphasize the path
-Looks at theater as interpretation of real life - a journey and cycle; interactive and adventurous, NOT passive observation
Building Design:
- Deals with the intersection of audience and actor as heart of theater; start of cycle
-Extrapolates the implied continuation of cut tubes into continual views along the train tracks and over the cast house across Bethlehem
- Utilizes curves and steps to emphasize movement and eliminate clear vanishing points
